Deep Relationship Questions
These questions are about the relationship itself - how you handle conflict, what makes each of you feel secure, and where you want to grow together. They work best when you're both calm and curious, not in the middle of a disagreement. Ask, listen, and let the answers shape how you love each other.

Why slowing down for one real question changes how you talk about the relationship
Deep Talks works differently from quick-fire games, and the difference is the whole point. You pick one question and give it actual room, instead of skimming a dozen. When the topic is the relationship itself, that slowness matters even more, because the things that make a partner feel secure or appreciated rarely come out in a rushed answer. You take turns answering fully, you ask a follow-up, and you let the silence sit while the other person finds the real words. There's no score and no winner here, just the harder, better goal of understanding each other.
These particular questions point inward, at how the two of you actually work. 'How do you prefer to repair things after we argue?' is a question most couples never ask while calm, even though knowing the answer can defuse half your future fights before they start. 'What makes you feel most secure in our relationship?' often surprises the person answering it, because they've never had to put it into words. The Gottmans describe curiosity as one of the quiet engines of lasting love. Asking and truly listening, rather than waiting to defend yourself, is what turns a question into closeness.
Timing is everything with these. Ask them when you're both calm and a little curious, never in the heat of a disagreement, because a relationship question lobbed mid-argument reads as an accusation. Pick one and stay with it. Answer honestly even when the honest answer is unflattering to admit, and when your partner shares something, resist fixing or rebutting it. Just ask one more question to understand it better. The aim is to leave the conversation feeling more known, not more right.
